廖端芳，男，汉族，中共党员。博士、教授、中南大学和南华大学博士研究生导师。 现任南华大学副校长兼药物药理研究所所长。1959年5月出生于湖南省沅江市人。1985年毕业于南华大学医学院（原衡阳医学院）医疗系，获医学学士学位。1989年毕业于中南大学湘雅医学院（原湖南医科大学），获医学硕士学位，1993年3月破格晋升副教授，1994年享受政府特殊津贴，1995年被遴选为湖南省优秀中青年专家。1994年11月赴美国华盛顿大学和加拿大哥伦比亚大学进修，1998年3月回国，同年晋升教授, 2001年获中山大学中山医学院医学博士学位。1999年被遴选为湖南省普通高校跨世纪学科带头人和湖南省学位委员会委员。 2000年被遴选为湖南省自然科学委员会委员。2002被评为湖南省优秀留学归国人员。2004年被遴选为国家自然科学基金委员会生命科学部第十届学科评审组专家。 2005年被遴选为湖南省121人才工程第二层人选，2007年进入第一层人选。现为<<南华大学学报>>医学版主编，<<中国动脉硬化杂志>>副主编,<<Acta Pharmacol Sinica>>编委, 国际动脉粥样硬化学会中国分会副理事长。
主要从事动脉粥样硬化及急性冠脉综合征的发病机理、药物蛋白组学研究。尤其在探讨细胞胆固醇外向转运、血管重构、斑块稳定的信号通路关系方面较有成效。阐明了血管紧张素II刺激平滑肌细胞增生的Ras→PKC－ζ→MEK→ERK1/2→p70S6K信号通道；发现氧化应激可刺激血管平滑肌细胞释放SOXF因子，并分离、纯化了该因子。提出了荷脂细胞胆固醇外向转运“四个体系、一个中心、偶联转运、网络调控”的工作模式。合作创立了基因突变敏感性分子“开/关”技术平台。先后主持国家自然科学基金课题6项, 日本心脏学会国际青年基金课题１项, 主持教育部、卫生部、湖南省自然基金、湖南省重大、重点项目等10余项, 与苏州大学联合申请863项目1项，参加国家973项目2项。在《J Biol Chem》、《Circ Res》、《J Lipid Res》、《Eur J Pharmacol》、《Life Sci》、《BBRC》、《Lab Invest》、《Mol Biotech》、《JBMB》、《Acta Pharmacol Sin》和《中华医学杂志英文版》等国内、外期刊发表科研论文160余篇， 其中被SCI收录近42篇、EI收录1篇、ISTP收录英文摘要30余篇；累积IF>100。发表教研论文20余篇。获国家教委科技进步一等奖1项，教育部自然科学二等奖1项，湖南省科技进步二等奖1项、三等奖2项；获国家级教学成果二等奖1项、省级教学成果一等奖2项、三等奖4项；申请专利5项。主编、参编教材、专著10部。
